Do you know your botanicals?

Why work with plants?

Botanical medicine is part of my practice. But not everyone knows what that means. As a naturopathic doctor, I am trained to prescribe plants that can help patients boost their health and wellness. Whether they come in the form of herbal teas, tinctures, capsules and other preparations, plant-based solutions can work well to support some conditions and help patients move towards better health.

Botanical medicines are the subject of a growing number of clinical research studies, and the majority of plants used by naturopathic doctors have been proven safe and effective by scientific and clinical research.

Some examples of plant-based recommendations I make most often are:

  • Milk thistle for liver health
  • Ashwagandha for stress and burnout
  • Passionflower for anxiety
  • Echinacea for boosting your immune system

Just as some patient treatments can be preventative, some medicines can be completely natural and have the positive effect you’re looking for.
